Stephen King’s position is that male fiction – call it “man lit” – was as healthy as ever. I don’t disagree with King’s position on this. As a nearly insatiable male reader of fiction, I can attest to the viability of the “man lit” genre. What I disagree with is King’s list of the genre’s best authors. King listed Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, and Lee Child. That’s a tough list to argue with. Connelly is the creator of the Harry Bosch series. Bosch, the LAPD detective, is one of the best literary tough guys around, and with The Lincoln Lawyer, Connelly has created another compelling character in Mickey Haller.
